The Brooklyn Orchids Origin Story

After my first visit to the New York Botanical Garden’s annual Orchid Show in 2009, I fell hopelessly in love with orchids. Every time I see a store that sells orchids, I have to step inside and check them out. As my interest in these intriguing plants deepened, I started a blog where I could process, collect, and document what I learned—and share those learnings with others.

I now live in Washington DC, but I kept my blog’s name. Confusing, I know. Here’s why I didn’t change the name: I was living in Brooklyn when I became obsessed with orchids and began writing about them, so Brooklyn Orchids it shall remain.

Since its inception in February 2010, bklynorchids.com has received more than 1.5 million visitors.
