The Adventures of Herman Origin Story

Five years of blogging about orchids gave me the itch to start a blog separate from Brooklyn Orchids where I could write about my other interests. I had already set up a WordPress site to function as a copy editing and writing portfolio, as I was doing small freelance jobs of that sort at the time. So in February 2015, I  morphed that site into a personal blog.

Soon after I launched the blog, one of my friends from high school said it was like the “Adventures of Herman,” which I quickly realized needed to be the official name (thanks, Megan!). “Herman” was my nickname in high school, and it really stuck.

Several years later, AoH continues to grow. As a nano influencer with good engagement on Instagram, I’ve received gifts from beauty brands such as bareMinerals, Dr. Brandt, Skyn Iceland, Paula’s Choice, Youth to the People, Patchology, Derma-E, Cocokind, The Inkey List, Maelove, and Nécessaire. I always appreciate the opportunity to try new products and enjoy sharing my honest opinion of them.

A note about my photos, particularly those on IG: I do not filter, FaceTune, or otherwise digitally manipulate my selfies. I prefer to show my face as is: pores, dark spots, fine lines, and all. I understand that I’m fortunate that I feel comfortable enough to show my unedited skin. However, I believe that the proliferation of overly filtered faces can be harmful (especially to young people) in so many ways.
